Another week has gone, and it’s time to draw our winners. This week’s winner of a $25 Gift Card from Amazon.com is:
Giri V. V.
(At least, that’s the name they gave, the email address appears valid.) Congratulations! I’ve just sent you an email, and you have until the next drawing (7 days) to respond.. If you don’t, then the next winner gets it instead! If you didn’t win, then don’t despair. Just take the survey again and you’ll be entered to win in the next round!
But that’s not all, as we also have the winners of the 4 Dave Matthews Prize Packs. The four lucky winners are:
JeremiahW (Apparently he wasn’t joking when he said he didn’t want to win)
Antitrust
Nick
Ana Cordona
Kayla
Just like above, I’ve contacted all of you via the means you provided.. If I don’t hear anything from you by next week’s drawing (7 days), then I’ll reclaim your prizes for my own nefarious means.. You know, like give `em to my kids or raffle them off again.
There’ll be plenty of more contests in the future I’m sure, so keep coming back to VizWorld.com and comment often! You never know when we might just pick a lucky commenter at random for something neat.
For those of you interested: I used a random number generator to choose between the responses, and the NIST Website to determine the cutoff time.

Time is up and the first winner of the $25 Gift Card from Amazon is :
Josh Ryan
Congratulations! I’ve just sent you an email, and you have until the next drawing to respond.. If you don’t, then the next winner gets it instead!
If you didn’t win, then don’t despair. Just take the survey again and you’ll be entered to win in the next round!
For those of you interested: I used a random number generator to choose between the responses, although it took two tries before I found a properly formatted response including an email address.

VizWorld is nearing its first year of operation, and it’s been a fun one. The sheer thought has put us in the giving mood so we’ve started the first annual VizWorld User Survey! I know how much of a pain Surveys can be, but it’s a short one (20 questions, multiple choice). Plus, if you fill one out you’re entered to win a $25 Gift Card from Amazon.com ! That’s right, we’ll be raffling one off every Friday at 5pm Central Time from now til Christmas (the 25th will be the 4th and final raffle).
So go fill out the survey (only once per person, per week!) and enter for your chance to win!

Just to let everyone know, if you haven’t already noticed, updates will be sparse today. I’m traveling back home from SC09 today, and therefore spenting the bulk of the day in the air.
Check back for a few updates later tonight, and things will be back to normal tomorrow.

We are happy today to roll out our latest feature here on VizWorld, although the eagle-eyed among you may have already noticed it in the top navbar: Job Listings. If you are an employer looking to hire somone in any of the fields we discuss here on VizWorld (scientific visualization, graphics hardware, visual effects, animation, etc) then head on over to our Jobs page and submit the job details. While we are ironing out the kinks, posting a job listing is free.
Our first job comes courtesy of the National Renewable Energy Labs, who need a Postdoctoral Visualization Scientist:
The successful candidate will perform independent and team research on scientific visualization techniques and participate in work with NREL scientists to visualize and analyze large spatial and non-spatial data sets, microscopy and spectroscopy laboratory data, and simulations related to renewable energy and energy efficiency research and deployment. The candidate will assist NREL scientists in a wide variety of applied areas, including: renewable energy resources (wind, solar, and biomass potential over space and time), modeling and simulation of materials at the atomistic level, metabolic modeling and multivariate analysis in bio-energy research, and geo-statistical analysis for worldwide solar and wind resource assessment. Additionally, the candidate will assist in the planning, design, and installation of NREL’s future visualization and virtual collaboration capabilities, supporting both hardware and software.
So go check it out, and if you manage to score a job thanks to a listing here, let us know!

Next week is the SuperComputing 2009 conference in Portland, OR, and VizWorld will be there. We’ve already got several meetings planned, so tune in next week for (hopefully) news including:
- Microsoft’s HPC & Visualization Offerings
- NVidia’s new technology, including a peek at Fermi
- SGI’s newest offerings
- Details of the Graphics Focus at SC09
- And much much more..
All of the news will be under our SC09 tag, so you can follow along if you like! Also, we’ll be hosting the usual #SC09 Twitter Hashtag results in the sidebar.
If you’ll be at SuperComputing 2009 and want to meet up, drop us a line here or via any of the means on our About page, we’ld love to meet you!

If you haven’t already nominated someone else, consider nominating VizWorld in Mashable’s 2009 Open Web Awards “Best Online Magazine” category. We know you enjoy reading our articles as much as we enjoy writing them!
If you think we fit better in another category, then nominate us there too!

Running a little experiment here for those of you lucky enough to get into the Google Wave beta. Even if you didn’t get in then maybe you can watch and see what it’s kinda about.
After the break I’ve embedded a public Wave that anyone can edit. Stop on by and leave a comment, and see what the fuss is about.
I’m considering setting up a Wave for VisWeek next week where attendees can meet & chat about the events, maybe plan get-togethers. What do you think? How can we use Wave effectively?
Update: Looks like Google hasn’t actually enabled “Public” waves.. So before you can do anything you’ll need to give me your Google wave address so that I can add you to the wave. Simply post it as a comment, and I’ll add it to the wave (And if you like, automatically delete your comment).
Update: Looks like they have actually.. If you have a Google Wave account and you’re signed into it, you should see the wave below. Enjoy!
