This Week In Viz: OnLive

This week in Viz is a special episode covering everything about the exciting cloud gaming product from OnLive.  OnLive was kind enough to send me a review unit and an account, and I put both the hardware unit and their software offering through the paces on some Duke Nukem Forever and F3AR, and the results are simply amazing.

Watch the video for all the details!

Website Tweaks

In an attempt to stem the massive flood of spam comments that’s been coming in the last few weeks (I’ve gone from 1-2 a day to 10-15 an hour), I’ve made some configuration changes here on the site.  First off, all first comments are moderated (once you have a good comment on the site, you’re except from moderation.).  In addition, I’ve added a new plugin or two to block known bad apples.  If you visit and find yourself 403‘d, please let me know so I can modify the settings.

VizWorld.com Website Fix: Categories & Tags

Most of you probably never even noticed, but if you did, it’s fixed now.  In the upgrade to WordPress 3.1, it seems that my Categories & Tags quit working.  If you clicked on the “NVidia” Tag, you’ld get a single NVidia story instead of the list of stories.  Some tags would lead to 404 pages.

It’s all fixed now, so click away!

Offtopic: A family in need this Holiday

I saw this on Twitter today, in my hometown, and had to share. If you don’t see the picture then it’s the sad story of a lonely kid dodging rush hour traffic in downtown Jackson, MS, belonging to a huge family of 9 kids ranging from 5 months to 14 years, in a broken home missing basic utilities like Gas. The guy trying to help has contacts in real estate willing to fix the place up, but they need money for supplies and basic equipment.

So take that little bit of coffee money or Dirty Santa cash and instead use it to help a family that really needs it this holiday season. It gets down to freezing tonight, so time is of the essence here. Give them a call at 601-573-9728 and see how you can help.

New On VizWorld: Evernote Site Memory

Wanted to announce a new feature here on VizWorld.  I’m a big fan of EverNote, I’ve been a premium subscriber for over 2 years now I believe.  Currently managing just over 1900 notes, I find it invaluable in my day-to-day workings.  If you’re a fan (or even if you’re not), you may have heard about a new feature they just rolled out called ‘Site Memory Buttons‘.

The Evernote Site Memory button embeds a mini version of Evernote onto your pages. As the name suggests, the button gives your website a memory—like getting an incredibly powerful favorite function, without the implementation headaches. Whether you run a blog, news outlet, storefront, or corporate site, here’s what Site Memory can do for you:

So now, if you view an individual article you’ll see that trademark little green elephant button in the right sidebar.  Click that, and a note will be created for you automatically with the story content (none of the extra garbage), nicely formatted, with a proper title and URL to the story and the ‘vizworld’ tag (optional).  Should save you some trouble if you’re a big Evernote clipper like myself. Also, using the ‘Site Memory’ button enables some nice features like being able to browse previous clips from VizWorld.com, to make sure you haven’t already clipped it once before.

So go try it out, and let me know what you think!

PS: If you’re a NoScript user (like myself), then you’ll need to add the following to your ‘Advanced’ ‘XSS’ settings as a trusted url:

That’ll get it working.. For some reason, even if you do the ‘unsafe reload’, it won’t work.
