Topogun 2.0 beta review

The Topogun mesh re-topologization and map baking tool is about to hit version 2.0 for Windows, Linux, and Mac OSX.  Max Underground has a nice look at the beta, showing what you can expect in the full release when it comes out.

Topogun offers almost a full pipeline for retopologization and map baking, with the exception of UV creation tools (which might not be a minor issue for some users). You can also use Topogun 2.0 for retopologizing your concept sculpt and then use subdivision tools to create a hi-res, wrapped mesh that captures the details automatically and then continue sculpting on the cleaned up hi-res mesh in your sculpting application.

TopoGun for OSX Released

Took a lot longer than expected, but the TopoGun OSX Beta has concluded and now TopoGun is officially available for OSX.  If you already have a TopoGun license, then you have the option of using it with either Windows or OSX, you don’t have to buy a new one.  If you do not have one, then licenses are available for $100 for a single license.

TopoGun beta for OS X announced

topogunWe first discussed TopoGun back in August, but back then it was Windows-only.  Looks like they’re ready to change that as the TopoGun 1.05 for OSX will begin betatesting in just a few days.

TopoGun 1.05 for OS X is ready and the betatesting will start in a couple days.

Everyone who wants to join the betateam should register to the TopoGun forum and join the Betatesters usergroup.

TopoGun requires at least OS X version 10.5.5.

TopoGun Topology Generator

topogunTools like ZBrush make fantastic models quickly and have become a popular choice amongst graphics designers, but the models they generate are often too detailed and need to be reduced.  A new software product, TopoGun, aims to make generating texture maps and resurfaced models much simpler.

TopoGun is a stand-alone resurfacing, and maps baking application. The resurfacing functions in TopoGun will help you modify and/or recreate the edgeflow of your digital 3D models. The maps baking functions, will help you bake various types of texture maps from your high resolution 3D models and then allow you to apply them to your newly created optimized meshes. These texture maps contain information that will help you recover the appearance and features of the original high resolution mesh.

There’s a free demo if you want to try it out, (feature restricted, cannot save scenes or maps), and it’s available in both node-locked and floating versions for $100/$250 respectively.
