At the upcoming SIGGRAPH2011 in Vancouver, Southpaw Technology will be onhand showing off the new features in the latest version of TACTIC.  The biggest new workflow feature is aimed at costing, budgeting, and reporting, important stuff for folks doing more freelance VFX work.

“We’re extremely excited to be showing these new features at this year’s Siggraph,” said Gary Mundell, CEO of Southpaw Technology. ”Many studios can create fantastic content. But few studios have a clear, real-time indication of how much that content costs to create, where inefficiencies are occurring in their studios, and where processes can be streamlined. With TACTIC, now they can not only create content faster, they can see how much that content costs to create, down to the penny.”

In addition, they’ve got some new workflow features that add things like individual “dashboards” for individual users, and lots of event triggers to make data management workflow stuff happen automatically.

Conversion Works is a Vancouver-based Stereoscopic 3D conversion studio, and has just signed a deal with Southpaw Technology to standardize on their TACTIC workflow technology.

“We are transitioning from developing our core technology with a small technical team into full production,” said Daniel Roizman, director of production technology at Conversion Works. “With the volume of data going through our pipeline each day, efficiency is key to our success. By integrating project and asset management into one solution, TACTIC will streamline our whole process and give us the efficiency we need.”

They’ve integrated it into their own True Stereo 3DX conversion pipeline to create a single web-interface with built-in automation.

Southpaw Technologies has just announced the immediate availability of TACTIC3.0, their production digital asset management product that has just recently achieved integration nirvana with NUKE.  This new version, to be demonstrated at SIGGRAPH, offers improved interfaces and a powerful expression language enabling integration with a wide variety of systems.  In addition to Nuke, this version also integrates with the Adobe Suite, Rush render queue, and IRIDAS FrameCycler.

“TACTIC is the bedrock of our pipeline,” said Todd Jahnke, head of production at March Entertainment. “We use it for our production management, asset management, and overall pipeline solution. TACTIC also manages our communications with production partners spread across four countries. Southpaw technology has just announced their impressive asset management product TACTIC now integrates with The Foundry’s NUKE compositing software, giving you a 1-stop tool for asset management, workflow, and compositing.

“Securing, tracking and versioning shots is a complete headache for most artists and most productions,” said Dr. Bill Collis, CEO of The Foundry. “As productions grow in size, the headaches will only get worse.
