Infographic: The Tiger Woods Economy
Tiger Woods showed up to play at the Masters in Augusts, still dealing with his recent public infidelity and marriage problems. Cleverly, he didn’t announce his intent to play until after all of the advertising had been sold, allowing customers to buy ad spots at historically low rates. His believed pass of the tournament drove ticket prices down, advertising revenues down, and viewership down. However, once he appeared, this all quickly reversed.
Mint has a new infographic showing the impact of his sudden change of heart on the tournament. See full-resolution after the break.

State of the Unions

Mint has an infographic showing how many members there are of unions as a percent of the total employed across the United States. Not surprisingly, the West coast and the NorthEast have the highest percentage of union members. The SouthEast has the lowest percentage of union members, with Alabama sticking out like a sore thumb. That makes me wonder why Alabama has a higher union membership than say, Georgia or Mississippi, its next door neighbors. It is just a guess, but it could be due to having three automobile manufacturing plants in the state. Mississippi has one (Nissan) and one other under construction (Toyota). Georgia has two (GM and Ford) with a third under construction (Kia).

Infographic: Early-Bird Taxpayers Gets the Refund
Tax filing day looms on the horizon for US citizens, and a new survey and infographic from TurboTax, the guys behind Quicken, Intuit, and (now) Mint.com, shows who files early.
A TurboTax survey found that 82 percent of taxpayers who filed before the end of February got money back. In fact, 40 percent of all tax returns are filed before the end of February, according to the IRS. And not only do most early filers get a refund, their average refund is typically larger: $2,869 compared to $2,753 for returns filed through April 15, according to the IRS. This image reveals some interesting data around the group known as “early filers” – including their demographics, what they do with their refund, their average refund, and statistics around e-Filing.
