Hatsune Miku now dancing on tables in AR

Toyota has teamed up with junaio and Hatsune Miku to bring the popular vocaloid sensation to life with Augmented Reality.  Toyota’s already used Hatsune to advertise their 2011 Corolla, so this is just a continuation of their existing ad campaign.

Hatsune Miku may be a digital construct, but the great thing about Augmented Reality is that we can take digital and 3-D content and breathe life into it by placing it in the physical world. A virtual entity could assume all three dimensions and interact with the real world- and that’s exactly what we did for the beautiful Hatsune Miku in this most recent development for Toyota.

Junaio’s newest Augmented Reality Coke Ad

We’ve discussed junaio a lot here on VizWorld, and today they’re back with another augmented reality press release.  It’s really no different that their other work, except this time it’s with a bigname company: Coca Cola of Germany.  It’s actually done with Sausalitos, a restaurant and bar chain popular in the region, but by viewing the ad with the “Sausalitos” Channel in the junaio app, you see the AR ad and get a coupon for a free Coke.

Sausalitos together with Coke zero of Germany just launched their Augmented Reality campaign on junaio this week. Traditional advertising is losing traction and people often pay little attention to commercial messages found in newspapers and magazines. Now, the much talked about Augmented Reality (AR) technology as available within the smartphone AR browser junaio may change all that. junaio`s highly sophisticated image recognition and object tracking capabilities make it possible to recognize a print ad and call up additional digital content to delight the viewer and draw renewed attention to a sponsor`s message.

junaio Augmented Reality for iPhone now Available

junaio
It’s a bit later than previously expected but junaio, the world’s first social augmented reality platform, is now available in the iTunes App Store for all iPhone platforms. From the press release:

With junaio, metaio is putting the power of its augmented reality technology – which has been used by industry giants such as Volkswagen, LEGO and Popular Science plus hundreds of other companies – in the hands of everyday consumers. The worldwide film company Focus Features has partnered with junaio to place memorable characters from its hit animated movies 9 and Coraline (the latter feature already available on DVD through Universal Studios Home Entertainment) on the platform to allow users to interact with the creations.

Unlike other applications that attempt to create new social networking communities, junaio is designed to tie existing platforms together with augmented reality based social interactions. Users can insert an (animated) 3D object into a photo taken with their iPhone  and upload it to Facebook, or augment images that others have posted. The technology will soon be available on other smart phone platforms such as Android and Symbian.

Go get the app in the iTunes App Store.  You can read the full press release and see some sample video after the break.

Already existing web services can be enhanced and completely new ways of interaction can be created. Whether it is social networks, multimedia content or game concepts – virtually anything can be embedded in the real world and connected to a certain place. “The possibilities are endless, we are taking the Internet outside to the real world,” says Thomas Alt, Chief Executive Officer of metaio.

Given that this is for the iPhone, the November 2nd date is probably a “Best guess” given Apple’s typical 2-week turnaround.  After the iPhone version is out, they expect to release an Android and Symbian versions as well.  Read the full press release after the break.
