NewTek & Intersense create LightWave 10 with VCam

NewTek, creators of popular 3D animation and video products, has partnered up with InterSense Inc, creators of the fascinating VCam product we discussed at SIGGRAPH last year, to create the industry’s first off-the-shelf 3D Virtual production system: LightWave 10 with VCam.

“With LightWave and VCam, we can put more control and creative freedom back in the hands of directors, producers and VFX supervisors while ensuring that more of the production budget stays on the screen,” said Dean Wormell, director of applications marketing, InterSense. “Together, we hope to open up a new world of immersive virtual production for independent filmmakers and game developers worldwide.”

Full details in the release after the break.

Intersense at SIGGRAPH2009

intersense-vcamJust got off the phone with InterSense, makers of the popular VCam system used in Monsters vs Aliens.  The product has gotten alot of press for it’s impressive combination of motion tracking, from their IS900 system, with real-time rendering in AutoDesk’s Motion Builder, making it great for pre-vis.

Well, Intersense has a new product they’ll be unveiling at SIGGRAPH2009 that’s sure to be even more incredible!  But if you want to know what it is, you’ll have to stop by booth 2023 at SIGGRAPH (or come back to VizWorld next week) for their live-demonstrations!  They will have their new stuff in their booth and running live hands-on demonstrations to visitors, so make sure you stop by and see not only the Intersense VCam, but their new mystery product that they’ll be announcing.

InterSense VCam Virtual Camera Tracking System at GDC

If you happen to be at the Game Developers conference in San Francisco next week, you might wanna stop by the InterSense booth for a live demonstration of the VCam.  It’s a virtual camera technology that allows directors to manipulate a camera in a Virtual Environment identically to how one would work in real life, shaky-cam effects and all.

The Third Floor team first used the InterSense VCam technology on two animated feature films, “Beowulf” (2007) and “A Christmas Carol” (2009). Since then, the studio has leveraged the VCam on other cinematics, including Blizzard Entertainment’s Starcraft II and Diablo III.

Developers can see a product video and testimonial from The Third Floor, as well as view the use of the VCam technology in the making of “Resistance 2″. Attendees are also invited to stop by InterSense’s booth (5127 NH) during GDC, taking place March 23 – 27 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.
