ASUS GTX 590

NVIDIA is releasing a the dual-GPU GeForce GTX 590 at 9 am (EDT) on Thursday, March 24th. Rumor is that the GTX 590 will have 1024 cores (512 per GPU), 128 texture units (64 per GPU), 96 ROPS (48 per GPU), and 3 GB of GDDR5 memory (1.5 GB per GPU). The memory bus width is 384 bits. It has two 8 pin power connectors, each of which can deliver 150 Watts. It can also draw up to 75 Watts from the PCIe connector. Rumor is that it will draw 375 Watts, just like the Radeon HD 6990.

PCInLife has posted some pictures of the ASUS GTX 590 which provide some additional details. The ASUS GTX 590 has 3 DVI outputs and 1 Mini DisplayPort output. Ozone3D fills in some more missing details by saying that the GPU will be clocked at 613 MHz (slower than the 580′s 722 MHz), the memory will be clocked at 855 MHz (slower than the 580′s 1.004 GHz) and the shaders will be clocked at 1.225 GHz (slower than the 580′s 1.544 GHz). The memory bandwidth will be 164.2 GB/second. The Pixel fillrate is 29.4 billion pixels per second. The Texture fillrate is 39.2 billion texels per second. TechPowerUp has a picture showing that the ASUS GTX 590 is shorter than the Radeon HD 6990.

The Nvidia GeForce GTX is rumored to cost $799. Rumors on the benchmarks show that it is slower than the Radeon HD 6990. Given the clock speeds, it will be slower than two 580′s in SLI. Tomorrow we will find out for sure what the benchmarks really are.

NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 560 Ti

The GeForce GTX 560 Ti is a new graphics card just announced by NVIDIA. This graphics card is based on the GF114 GPU. This GeForce GTX 560 Ti comes with 384 CUDA cores, a 822 MHz core, and 1.644 GHz shaders. The card can handle up to 1.0GB GDDR5 on a 256-bit bus and clocked at 4.0 GHz. The card is expected to retail for $249. NewEgg has a Galaxy GeForce GTX 560 Ti listed, but they do not have a price for it yet. This version is slightly overclocked with a 835 MHz core, and 1.67 GHz shaders.

Essentially, the GeForce GTX 560 Ti is what the original GTX 460 should have been. The 560 Ti is 147 MHz faster than the original GTX 460. The 560 Ti has 384 CUDA cores while the original GTX 460 had 336 CUDA cores. Of course, this is good news if you want a GTX 460. You can find a 768 GB version of the GTX 460 for $105 after rebate on NewEgg right now, or a 1 GB version for $160.

TSMC manufactures the GPU on a 40 nm process. Remember, TSMC decided to skip the 32 nm process, and went with the 28nm process instead. However, that new process is not available right now.

Anandtech has posted a new review of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti.

To get a 30% performance improvement out of what’s fundamentally the same GPU is quite an accomplishment. I do not believe NVIDIA was originally intending for it to be this way (rather they’d launch something like the 560 back in July of 2010), but the result is nevertheless remarkable. Since the launch of the GTX 460 NVIDIA’s launches have been mostly solid, and the GTX 560 Ti adds to that list. Price/performance is not quite as aggressive as the GTX 460, but NVIDIA is still being aggressive enough to reshape the market – why else are we seeing Radeon HD 6800s for so cheap, and the very sudden launch of the 1GB Radeon HD 6950?

GeForce GTX 570 coming December 7th

SweClockers.com has posted a product folder from Palit which reveals that the Nvidia GeForce GTX 570 will be released on December 7th. The Nvidia GeForce GTX 570 is built using the GF110 chip, just like the GTX 580 uses. The GTX 570 will have 480 CUDA cores just like the old GTX 480. Performance is expected to be very close to a GTX 480. The GTX will have a 732MHz core and the shaders will be clocked at 1.464 GHz. The GTX 570 will have 1.28 GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 3.8 GHz. The memory bus will be 320 bits wide and have 152 GB/s of memory bandwidth. The GTX 570 should cost about $400.

Remember that the Radeon 6900 series has been delayed until Dec 13th. It looks to me like Nvidia is the one firing on all cylinders now, and AMD is struggling a bit. That is a drastic difference from late last year and early this year when it was Nvidia that was having problems and AMD could do no wrong.

GTX 580 rumors

One of my great disappointments with NVIDIA’s Fermi is that we know it has 512 streaming processors. Unfortunately, none of the graphics cards, whether for professional or gaming purposes, that have been released by NVIDIA enable all of these streaming processors. The GeForce GTX 480 has only 480 streaming processors. In the professional realm it is even worse. The Quadro 6000 has only 448 streaming processors.

A user over in the [H]ardOCP forums has collected some nice NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 rumors. Among those rumors are that the GeForce GTX 580 will have all 512 streaming processors enabled.

GeForce GTX 480M

We reported this back on May 3rd, but now Nvidia has announced the GeForce GTX 480M GPU for notebooks. The official specifications for the GeForce GTX 480M have not been announced yet. However, the rumors are that it is based on the Fermi architecture. In addition, it will feature, 352 CUDA cores, will have a 256-bit memory interface, will come with 2 GB of GDDR5 memory, consume 100 Watts, will be manufactured on a 40nm process, and be released in June. The core will run at 425MHz, the memory at 1.2 GHz, and the CUDA cores at 850 MHz. Thus far, Clevo is the only manufacturer confirmed to be using the GeForce GTX 480M. From the Nvidia Ntersect blog post:

Today we introduced the new GeForce GTX 480M GPU for Notebooks and with it we’re achieving some very impressive milestones. First, this is DirectX 11 done right for notebooks. Tessellation is the most important new feature for the DirectX 11 API, and the GeForce GTX 480M is a true tessellation monster for the notebook platform. It offers a dedicated Tessellation engine for up to 5x more performance than any other GPU.

Second, with the power of the GeForce GTX 480M GPUs, notebook manufacturers can set new records for notebook performance. Put simply: If a notebook maker wants to build the fastest possible system on the planet, they will start with GeForce GTX 480M as its foundation.

Third, we’ve now brought the vaunted Fermi architecture to notebooks. GeForce GTX 480M delivers nearly three times more NVIDIA CUDA cores over previous generation Notebook GPUs, which means users get unbelievably fast video transcoding, upscaling from standard definition to high definition and real-time movie clean-up with the click of a button.

And finally, the GeForce GTX 480M not only delivers the world’s best gaming frame rates, it also gives added features that no other GPU offers, including NVIDIA 3D Vision technology for an immersive gaming experience, NVIDIA PhysX technology that brings games to life with dynamic, interactive environments and NVIDIA Verde Notebook Drivers for the most up-to-date performance from your notebook.

We’re happy to partner with Clevo to introduce the first system based on GeForce GTX 480M. Stay tuned for more systems in the future.

Nvidia holds gaming festival in China to promote GeForce GTX480/470

We have posted rumors about the yields for the GTX480 and GTX470 in the past. One rumor was that the GF100 yields are below 50% at TSMC. This is an improvement over the 2% yields reported last year. 50% yields are in line with what was reported for ATI last year.

Nvidia recently held the Nvidia Game Festival (NGF) in Shanghai, China. This festival was to promote the launch of its GeForce GTX 480 and 470 graphics cards. Digitimes is reporting that NVidia is happy with the yields that they are getting. Of course, they do not say what those yields actually are.

Commenting on recent market rumors the Nvidia’s GTX 480 and 470 GPU yields are only about 20%, Drew Henry, Nvidia general manager of MCP business, refuted the rumors saying yields have met company expectations.

GeForce 480 at CEBIT

On March 26, NVidia will be releasing the GeForce GTX 480 and 470. Rumor is that it is 5% faster than the Radeon HD 5870. Rumor also has it that availability will scarce for the first couple of months. At CEBIT this week, Tweakers.net took some photos of the, as yet unreleased, graphics card. Guru3D provides the following commentary on the images:

We spot 12 memory chips which are on a 384-bit wide memory interface. The GPU is powered by a 6-phase vGPU circuit then we spot a 2-phase Memory circuit. Power is drawn from an 8-pin and a 6-pin power connector. Monitor connectivity shows two DVI-D, and a mini HDMI connector.
