German VFX site “CGHeute” (CGToday in German) has the story of John Streider’s “Pink Assassin”, make with ZBrush, Cinema4D, and FryRender.
On this project I used C4D for modeling and scene setup, ZBrush for sculpting and texture painting as well as fryrender for material creation and rendering.
I also used the plug ins “paintonsurface” and “splinespread” for C4D.
My intention was to create a character with personality, who looks like she had lived, and tell a story just through her face and not through accessories.

We spoke a few weeks ago about the fryrender RC5 tool that could real-time render some fantastic scenes from 3dsMax. Real-time raytracing is a tough problem, but if you’ve ever wondered just how powerful it is, then you’re in luck. A demonstration video is now available on Vimeo showing a simple scene rendered & recorded real-time with their fryrender tool.
The frames were output by rc5player in real-time (at a rate of over 20 frames per second). All effects precomputed by fryrender RT such as DOF, vignetting, Global Illumination and physical materials were interpreted by RC5 in real-time. The frames were assembled in a video editing software, and an audio track was added for greater effect.
See the video after the break.

RandomControl’s FryRender has just been updated for 3D Studio Max 2010. Available in several configurations ranging from 245€ to 795€, it is an unbiased spectral renderer that renderes based on physically accurate models of real behavior of light.
