In the Forums: Conference Season

conferenceIt’s conference season, and you know what that means. For some of us it means swag, parties, and wining and dining with deep-pocketed vendors.  For others it means submission deadlines, frantic mad dashes, and putting your work on display for thousands of people.  Some are done and some have yet to begin!  Which ones are you going to? What are you hoping to see there?  Visit the forums and let us know!

In the Forums: What do you prefer?

This week in the forums we’re asking a few multiple choice questions for you to check out:

  • Do you prefer DirectX or OpenGL? And this one’s not just for programmers, but for application users as well.  Alot of software lets you choose (3ds Max, for example), which do you pick?
  • AMD or NVidia? Who delivers your graphics goods?

Website: Forums now accept Anonymous Posters

The VizWorld forums haven’t gotten the traffic I had hoped, so I’ve added some new plugins to add some new features:

  • The forums now allow anonymous posts, so you no longer have to create an account.
  • To prevent spam (From anonymous posts), there is a “Human Check” that you have to pass, a simple single-digit math problem

I hope that these changes will open the forums to more people.  I haven’t gotten hardly any answers on any of the weekly questions!  So go check out the forums and start posting!

In the Forums: How can Visualization aid Education?

After an eye-opening talk today by Ross Toedte, I’m inspired to ask a question of all my visitors:  How can Visualization and Computer Graphics be used to improve education in K-12?

It’s no surprise that the US has lost ground in the last decade or two in engineering, math, and science.  Is there more that the visualization community could be doing to help?
