Escape Studios has opened the search for the CG Whiz 2010, the winner of which will get a 12-week VFX course at Escape Studios, and a 4-week placement at The Mill.
“We’re very excited about this year’s competition that will find some of the industry’s brightest talent and give aspiring artists the chance to break into the VFX industry,” said Dominic Davenport, founder of Escape Studios. “Last year, the quality of entries we received was a testament to the hidden talent that exists in CG. We see it as our job to help anyone with a creative streak and a passion for computer graphics develop their skills and get them started on successful CG careers. We’re looking forward to checking out this year’s entries!”
It’s a huge prize that nearly guarantees a job if you can win it, booking a month of work with the Mill is a huge win on any resume. Entry rules are on their site, and the closing date is less than a month away! (November 12th)

Escape Studios surveyed over 2800 CG professionals in September and October and compiled the results into their latest “State of the CG Union” report, and they’ve just now published the results. The results paint the industry in a fairly good light:
The survey paints a picture of an energetic, happy workforce that realises it needs to take responsibility for its own development to secure continuous employment. 80 per cent of CG professionals are happy working in the CG industry, and 59 per cent would recommend the career to others. However, the survey flags training and job security as key concerns for CG professionals. 42 per cent of respondents said they are worried about job security, while a massive 62 per cent agreed they have had to do more training to refine their skills.
