YUVsoft Depth from Motion demonstrated at IBC

Russian company YUVsoft has a new After Effects plugin that can analyze video footage to create dynamic depth maps, making 2D to 3D conversion faster and more accurate.

YUVsoft’s Depth from Motion uses multiparameter projective transformations to analyse camera motion ensuring that zoom, scene rotation and camera pans are correctly processed.Slow motion scenes are automatically detected the process continue to work flawlessly.

The first picture above is from a 2D input sequence. The second one shows the final depth map created from camera motion during the shot. To reach that result, several steps are needed. The first step is to estimate motion from the first four frames and to use the obtained motion vectors to compute the camera motion parameters.

The plugin will be demonstrated at IBC later this week (Booth 11.F74).

Texture 3D Objects in AfterEffects with ft-UVPass

aeScripts has a new plugin available that will let you take a UV or ST map (texture coordinate map) from your 3D Package of choice, and use it to retexture models in AfterEffects.

The process is simply enough, stretching and warping the texture to match the desired UV or ST coordinates, but opens up a lot of capabilities in the final stages of compositing.  Things like rendering a blank car model with the UV map, then using AfterEffects to map multiple color schemes or paint jobs onto it.

The Foundry Introduces Two New Tools for Adobe After Effects

The Foundry has just released two new plugins for Adobe After Effects fans, adding impressive camera tracking and matchmoving directly into the popular compositing tool.

First up is ‘CameraTracker’ which can analyze a source sequence to extract the original camera information and motion, then enabling 3D compositing within the shot.  Previously only available in NukeX, now it’s available directly within Adobe After Effects CS5.

The other plugins is Khronos5, the first plugin to be accelerated with the Foundry’s new GPU-accelerated ‘Blink’ technology that runs on either the CPU or a CUDA-compliant GPU for maximum performance.  The new Khronos 5 offers realtime retiming and motion blur based on their popular Furnace algorithms.

Both plugins are available today, along with a special offer to get RollingShutter and CameraTracker together for After Effects for only $150.  Hit up the Foundry Website for all the details.

Wondertouch by Genarts ships ParticleIllusion for AfterEffects

The result of last month’s merger of GenArts and WonderTouch have just resulted in the first ever release of Particleillusion for AfterEffects, as an integrated plugin that brings the full functionality of Particleillusion into the popular compositing package.

Like its stand-alone sibling particleIllusion 3.0, pIAE is built on the industry’s most robust 2D particle generation engine.
