Hey, community of graphics and visualization!
There are some good news for all of you. 3D model marketplace CGTrader.com has redesigned its system and added extra features to make your buying and selling to taste like a dessert.

We made a complete redesign of the platform and have also improved the search engine and enriched it with additional features, made model upload easier, improved support, and now provide automatic 3D model activation after sale.

The authors still earn over 90% of royalties directly from the buyers. But now buyers can bid on the chosen 3D model and offer their own price. The possibility to negotiate will attract more buyers and help designers to increase their sales.

Please check it out - and let us know your comments, ideas and suggestions! We would love to hear what you think! :) Join a community of http://www.cgtrader.com 3D model marketplace now!

VizSec brings together researchers and practitioners in information visualization and security to address the specific needs of the cyber security community through new and insightful visualization techniques. VizSec 2013 will be held in Atlanta GA, USA on October 14, 2013 in conjunction with IEEE VIS. See the Call for Papers below for more details.

[strong]Call for Papers[/strong]

The 10th International Symposium on Visualization for Cyber Security (VizSec) is a forum that brings together researchers and practitioners from academia, government, and industry to address the needs of the cyber security community through new and insightful visualization and analysis techniques. VizSec will provide an excellent venue for fostering greater exchange and new collaborations on a broad range of security- and privacy-related topics. Accepted papers will appear in the ACM Digital Library as part of the ACM International Conference Proceedings Series.

Important research problems often lie at the intersection of disparate domains. Our focus is to explore effective, scalable visual interfaces for security domains, where visualization may provide a distinct benefit, including computer forensics, reverse engineering, insider threat detection, cryptography, privacy, preventing 'user assisted' attacks, compliance management, wireless security, secure coding, and penetration testing in addition to traditional network security. Human time and attention are precious resources. We are particularly interested in visualization and interaction techniques that effectively capture human analyst insights so that further processing may be handled by machines, freeing the analyst for other tasks. For example, a malware analyst might use a visualization system to analyze a new piece of malicious software and then facilitate generating a signature for future machine processing. When appropriate, research that incorporates multiple data sources, such as network packet captures, firewall rule sets and logs, DNS logs, web server logs, and/or intrusion detection system logs, is particularly desirable.

[strong]Technical Papers[/strong]

Full papers offering novel contributions in security visualization are solicited. Papers may present techniques, applications, practical experience, theory, analysis, or experiments and evaluations. We encourage papers on technologies and methods that promise to improve cyber security practices, including, but not limited to:

[ul]
Situational awareness / understanding

Incident handling including triage, exploration, correlation, and response

Computer forensics

Recording and reporting results of investigation

Reverse engineering and malware analysis

Multiple data source analysis

Analyzing information requirements for computer network defense

Evaluation / User testing of VizSec systems

Criteria for assessing the effectiveness of cyber security visualizations (whether from a security goal perspective or a human factors perspective)

Modeling system and network behavior

Modeling attacker and defender behavior

Studying risk and impact of cyber attacks

Predicting future attacks or targets

Security metrics and education

Software security

Mobile application security
[li]Social networking privacy and security
[/ul]

[strong]Posters[/strong]

Poster submissions may showcase late-breaking results, work in progress, preliminary results, or visual representations relevant to the VizSec community. Accepted poster abstracts will be made available on this website.

[strong]Awards[/strong]

There will be an award for the best paper from the accepted program. The best paper award will be given to the paper judged to have the highest overall quality. A key element of the best paper selection process will be whether the results are believed to be repeatable by other scientists based on the algorithms and data provided in the paper. This award will be chosen by the program committee.

[strong]Data[/strong]

If you do not have real-world data to demonstrate your visualization, you may be interested in looking at the VAST 2012 Challenge data. VAST 2011 also had cyber security data if you are looking for additional data.

[strong]Submissions[/strong]

[em]Papers[/em]

Papers should be at most 8 pages including the bibliography and appendices. Committee members are not required to read the appendices or any pages past the maximum. Submissions not meeting these guidelines will be rejected without consideration of their merits. Submitted papers must not substantially overlap papers that have been published or that are simultaneously submitted to a journal or a conference with proceedings. Authors of accepted papers must guarantee that their papers will be presented at the conference, preferably by themselves or by prior arrangement through a delegate.

[em]Posters[/em]

Poster submissions consist of an extended abstract of at most 2 pages including figures and references. Authors must present a corresponding poster during the designated poster session. Poster authors have the opportunity to give a brief oral preview during a plenary "fast forward" session.

[em]Formatting[/em]

The VizSec proceedings will be published by ACM. The ACM SIG Proceedings Templates provides Word and LaTeX templates. (If you are using LaTeX, please use Option 2: LaTeX2e - Tighter Alternate style.)

Authors should apply ACM Computing Classification categories and terms. ACM invites authors to submit an image representation of their article. The image must be selected from the article body and can be any of the following: art, graphic, table, figures, etc. (Image files are to be as square as possible, 100x100 ppi and in jpg format.) Authors must supply a caption with the image. The caption length should be no more than 512 characters.

[em]Submission[/em]

Submit papers and poster abstracts using EasyChair: http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=vizsec2013

render far is software that assists in CGI and is very helpful to create visual effects. It is widely used in film and television industry these days. Gone are the days when a filmmaker had to rely on sloppy images. Now-a-days, thanks to technology, it is possible to create very realistic images and that too within a very short span of time. Using render farm software, sharper and visually more delightful images can be easily created. Not only are these images created in a very life-like fashion, they are also created very fast which helps to save a

lot of time and money.

Software is the main factor in making excellent 3D animation. Any person wanting to join the industry or are involved already, need to recognize what is hot and what not, or they will be left behind. Keep in mind that software is not doing the work for you and the final product is going to be only as good as the one at the computer using renderintechniques. Then
Fox Render Farm can achieve the rendering service.

I guess this answers the question I was asking myself earlier. Graham... in your opinion would you say consumer grade gear like 2 gtx560s in SLI would be able to do a dual monitor 3D setup? I'm only really planning on using it play games and watch the occasional 3D content on youtube.

I agree on the bezel thing. Too bad there is no aftermarket for monitor cases with bezels optimized for 3D desktop usage. If anyone feels they would like to purchase this design please feel free to email me. I'm sure we can work something out where everyone is happy.

This was a single machine, although it could be used as a front-end to display data structures created via an MPI cluster.

I'm just dropping by to let folks know that a year later and after many false starts, we do now have a four-screen 3D display working! It is truly impressive, even with some minor limitations such as bezels that are a lot wider than we would like. (Turns out in 3D it's even easier to mentally blank those out than it is in 2D.)

We're using a Dell T7500 and two Quadro 5000 cards with SLI. We had a lot of problems getting compatible drivers and OS versions. I'll post the specific details soon. (And by soon I mean a little less than the 11 months since my last post ;-) )

I want to build a workstation with 4 LCD displays (2x2 tiled) synchronised for 3D stereo. Running linux, and it will be an output for the NAMD program which uses OpenGL.

If we're looking at nVidia, it's definitely a Quadro solution we're looking at, not GeForce.

Questions: 1) is quad buffered stereo a necessity?
2) can this be done say on a 5000 series or does it require quadroplex and the 7000 cards? i'm getting conflicting info from different people.

What I'm really hoping to find is someone who does visualization work using OpenGL on any multi-monitor 3D display (even 2 screens would be of interest) and to know what your config is, precisely.

Thanks

Hi all,
recently I have placed a TV next to my PC to watch something when I am doing boring tasks that I can use as monitor by an HDMI cable.
When I use it as a monitor I can watch movies too, for example connecting to the RAI site that has a lot of recorded clip in streaming.
I have still a problem: when I open with explorer the RAI site (that uses silverlight) and I drag it to the 2° monitor (and keep firefox in the first monitor to navigate) and maximize the clip to full screen, when i go back to the first monitor and click somewhere the movie go back to a little dimension: in practice I can keep it at full screen only if I don't touch anything.
Does anyone know how can I fix this problem?
Thank you

Actually, now that I see them - "I" would notice, but overall to be honest probably not. I think though, that they'd see more use if they were more relevant to a broader audience. Visualizing data is definitely important, and I find myself in a position that I have to generate some, yet because I'm not really good at math and determining proper formulas to effectively display relevant data to an audience, require some assistance with a pet project I'd like to get underway.

That said, perhaps if the forums were geared more towards the approachable aspects of visualizing data (discussing the do's and don'ts, proper data dissemination methods or the proper data sets, and a general help desk, etc) as well as things a bit more 'high end' such as technical aspects of software and hardware (which you have, but they're really tech oriented and there are a number of similar forums closer to the actual products specifically that get more use)... In other words, the forums seem too specific and geared towards a finite set applications. Open it up a little (just a suggestion)

Ruby is an interpreted scripting language that SketchUp can understand via its SketchUp Ruby application programming interface (API). It was first introduced in SketchUp Version 4 with the intention to quick and easy object-oriented programming.

With ruby script sketchup users can use to write plugins (scripts) for Google SketchUp and develop extra functionality by creating dozens of new tools & component generators for SketchUp beyond its built-in abilities in the Ruby programming language.

Ruby scripts can be any thing from short snippets of code to more elaborate tool development.

Sketchup is sketch-based 3D modeling program for the conceptual phases of design. With it's easy inteference One can create own 3D model easily and smoothly.

Sketchup is also very useful for creating 3D animation. SU Animate is an animation plug-in for Google SketchUp 6, 7 or 7.1. It creates creates animations inside SketchUp 6 or 7 Windows and the animation can be exported as video animation files or as series of image file (in the form of an Audio Video Interleave or AVI on Microsoft Windows and QuickTime on Mac OS X)

We at VizWorld have been bringing you some of the best we can find, but as the volume increases it can seem a bit overwhelming.

We want to know your opinion: Do you want more Infographic coverage? Less? Would you be interested in a dedicated category of Infographic Posts?
