Ego LS 4G Streaming Camera

Ego LS 4G Streaming Camera

Liquid Image demonstrated their Ego LS wearable 4G camera at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2015, which will be on the market within Q1 2015, and not dependent on any other device to stream content. The latest word is that the camera will be available by the end of Q1, and was held back from release in order to be able to offer Verizon 4G LTE network including XLTE allowing for fast live streaming. The Ego LS is also enabled to integrate streaming metadata from other peripheral connected devices such as biometrics, geolocation, and other sensor information.

A little larger than a GoPro (considered the standard for a “wearable” camera), the image from the camera is certainly acceptable for surveillance, babycam, and general streaming, if you are thinking of using it to share meetings to remote viewers. The image streaming from CES 2015 (which I captured below, as it was being broadcast live to YouTube in 720P HD) is acceptable for ordinary viewing, but I wouldn’t consider it for a broadcast movie, unless you want the effect it gives. The camera angle is approximately 135°, not as wide as the GoPro, giving it less of the fisheye effect, but still captures a wide area.

Here’s a brief interview at Liquid Image’s booth at CES Unveiled and some live streaming footage I captured from CES 2015 streaming to YouTube:

Here are more details about the camera, but Liquid Image says that specs and pricing may be subject to change by the time the unit is actually available for purchase.

“The Ego LS is a multi-functional connected device that pairs a wearable camera with a variety of wireless features. The wireless features include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Low Frequency RF. The device can transmit video and images over 4G LTE as well as through Wi-Fi. It can connect to other devices and remote controls through local networks or direct connections. The live transmission is useful for applications that range from Public Safety and Security to Promotional and Social uses. The end user may choose to utilize a private or a public network depending on their specific needs.

The initial launch of the Ego LS was delayed from 2014 to the first quarter of 2015 in order for the camera to support Verizon XLTE. Having dual Bands supported by the Verizon Wireless Network will increase video streaming capacity for the Ego LS device. During this extended development time the size and form factor of the 4G LTE Sled was optimized. Incorporation of API from third party peripheral devices was also initiated. This incorporation allows metadata to be transferred live from peripheral devices for specific applications and vertical markets. A list of peripheral devices will be available at the launch of the Ego LS and with each firmware update to the product.

Details regarding mounts and accessories will be available when the Ego LS ships in 2015.

The Ego LS Model 800 is estimated to retail at $399.99 in the US. The first shipment, estimated to release in the first quarter of 2015, will be certified for the Verizon Wireless Network. International markets currently in development are estimated to follow in second or third quarter of 2015 for the UK, Europe, Russia, Japan and Canada.

Specifications and prices are estimated at this time. Final details will be listed on the Liquid Image website when the Ego LS Model 800 becomes available. Sign up for notification of product shipment at www.liquidimageco.com.
