Eye trackers can take two forms: either using a fixed device that sits in front of the subject and tracks eye motion, or, in this case, glasses that sit on the user’s face, with sensors (including cameras) that track the movements of eyes.

Tobii’s Glasses 2 is an update to their first design, and though it was released prior to CES 2015, it serves a good purpose to have this device at the world’s major consumer electronics show, especially as we see an explosion in the Internet of Things, technology-assisted driving, and other devices and appliances that have a strong visual component.

Primarily aimed at the research marketplace, the three package offerings of the Glasses 2 with software and different hardware add-ins at each tier, start at $14,900USD. But there’s a definite advantage to purchasing this system if you’re doing user experience research, medical research, or marketing studies, just to name a few of the applications.

Here’s a short demo I was given at the Consumer Electronics Show CES Unveiled 2015:

Reminding one of Google Glass, the design is lightweight and only slightly bulky. If you have study participants using them out in the field, meaning out in public, they might only get a momentary stare from passers by, as the glasses, in fact, have a very stylish design and could be mistaken for sportswear.

But they are quite sophisticated in their output, you can read the tech specs at the end of this article.
