Promoting visual thinking, or, more specifically, applying visual thinking to your life’s work, might be hard to describe in just words. If your life’s work is some form of “applied visual thinking,” it always comes with some kind level of societal acceptance or valuation. Right now, a “data visualization scientist” is a highly sought-after professional; but what about a cartoonist?  Here’s a clever “comic book” or “graphic novel” (take your pick over the correct term for this work), give a conceptual framework about cartooning as a passion and a calling that can become a livelihood. Full credit goes to The Center for Cartoon Studies, founded in 2004, and the only single-purpose institution of its kind, offering a two-year study program dedicated to mastering comic and cartoon art.

And if you’re a data visualization scientist who starts the visualizations you realize with cartoons, doodles and sequential pen-and-ink drawings, would you also find this idea a useful way to think of the value of what you do for a living?
