While never using the word “transmedia” in this article, Barry Grieff, who has worked in nearly every type of media (from print, music, television and early multimedia), takes into account the built-in capabilities of people walking into a theater with devices that can connect, receive and control content in the theater itself.

In fact, he starts by equating the movie theater to come as “the physical embodiment of the holodeck”, and perhaps with new immersive/augmented reality technologies receiving massive funding this will be right on time for the 2020 milestone date.

There is something to laugh at too, as he doesn’t deny that waiting in line will still be part of the movie going experience, even if you’re going to pre-purchase your specific seat as you would for many theatrical events. But, with an unspecific reference to Minority Report, once again advertisements and pre-show events will be tailored and immersive.
