Roambi, the ground-breaking BI app created for the mobile environment, today announced the availability of Roambi Analytics for Android smartphones and tablets. Since its launch in 2009, Roambi has become the leading mobile reporting app on iOS with its combination of native architecture, multi-touch visualizations and mobile-centric functionality, including full offline capabilities. Next month, Roambi will bring that same level of experience, award-winning design and usability to the Android community.

Last week I had an interview with Quinton Alsbury, co-founder and president of Product Innovation for Roambi, in anticipation of this release. Much of the information is covered in their press release, which follows here, along with additional information about a survey that Roambi performed with Box, a partner in providing an end-to-end BI solution that is supported in the cloud.

While iOS activations continue to dominate in the enterprise with 72 percent of total device activations in Q1 2014, Android activations made up 27 percent according to Good Technology’s Mobility Index Report Q1 2014. According to a recent Roambi and Box survey of more than 1,100 sales executives across the U.S., close to 40 percent of respondents indicated that they prefer using Android for business use while an astounding 77 percent of respondents felt that there still aren’t enough business productivity apps or they aren’t familiar with business productivity apps for Android.

“We created Roambi because we believe that businesses of all sizes are shifting to become more mobile-centric and that there is a huge demand for enterprise applications that are designed and built from the ground up,” said Quinton Alsbury, co-founder and president of Product Innovation, Roambi. “We view mobility as an opportunity to combine the capabilities of mobile devices with a mobile-centric user experience, providing true mobile accessibility to information in the moments when decisions are actually made, and we are thrilled to now extend that opportunity to Android users, in addition to iOS.”

The long-awaited Roambi Analytics app for Android will be available to install through the Google Play store for customers of both the Roambi Enterprise Server and Roambi Business cloud offering on July 22. The initial version will include four of Roambi’s most popular views, including the Card, Catalist, Layers and Superlist, as well as support for all of the platforms content management and end-to-end security features including Device Lockout, Remote Wipe, Application Passcode and more. The company will be adding support for additional visualizations, as well as the Roambi Flow publishing product, throughout the remainder of the year.

Furthermore, Roambi also announced a new integration with Okta, an enterprise-grade identity management service, built from the ground up in the cloud and designed to address the challenges of a cloud, mobile and interconnected business world. The Roambi and Okta integration enables customers to centrally manage user identities, giving these users seamless, secure access to the 3,000+ applications in the Okta Application Network from any location or device, increasing productivity and empowering users to make smart, on-the-go decisions. The integration will also benefit IT and increase data security, as Okta’s centralized user management capabilities enable IT to easily provision and de-provision Roambi to end users.

Key features of the integration include:

  • Active Directory (AD) and Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) Integration – ability to use an internal AD or LDAP system for SSO authentication to Roambi Business
  • User and Group Synchronization – import and automatic synchronization of users and security groups between AD and Roambi Business
  • Automatic Application Provisioning – ability to grant or remove access of AD users and/or groups to Roambi Business

“Qualcomm has been using Roambi’s software for several years and are happy they are expanding to support Android devices. This will allow our users the ability to access the app no matter the device, operating system or supplier,” said Steve Rimar, Senior Staff IT Architect, Qualcomm.

“While many of today’s enterprise app developers take the economical approach of building them as web apps that are then simply wrapped into native downloads to make them easily accessible from any device, the new Roambi Analytics for Android follows our philosophy of creating fully native apps. The new Android version features the same touch-centric UI, native architecture, and full offline functionality as its iOS predecessor,” said Alsbury.
