Through the volunteer efforts curated using the MicroMapper platform (http://micromappers.com/), an interactive map of the crisis in the Philippines caused by the Typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan is being built, using esri.com‘s GIS platform to contain the data.

The screen shot here was taken on November 13, 2013 of the interactive visualization being built by the Standby Task Force and GISCorps. The visualization can be explored in real time at http://bit.ly/1dZuk44

GISCorps started life in October 2003 in Atlanta, Georgia, when the URISA (The Association for GIS Professionals) Board unanimously approved it as an initiative of URISA. GISCorps is now a URISA program and operates entirely on a volunteer basis. The core committee members, most of whom are themselves GISCorps volunteers, run the program with administrative help from the staff at URISA. They reside in different states accross the United States and Canada and use a wiki site to work collaboratively, mostly at nights and on weekends.

There are additional interactive maps from the GISCorps of the crisis here.
