The University of Potsdam will be offering 10 doctoral scholarships as of April 1, 2014 within the interdisciplinary Research Training Group “Visualization and Visibility. Hybrid forms of image Knowledge “(GRK 1539) from.

The graduate program is concerned with image and visualization processes of all kinds in the sciences and arts. In attendance will be philosophy, art and media sciences, General and Comparative and Medieval literature and cognitive psychology, mathematics of dynamical systems, computer science and Geoinformatics (cartography), physics, and design and design subjects.

The DFG Research Training Centre “Visibility and Visualization – Hybrid Forms of Pictorial Knowledge” at Potsdam University explores forms of visualization in science and art. In collaboration with Fachhochschule Potsdam and Freie Universität Berlin, the center investigates practices of visualization with a view to understanding how knowledge and reflective structures are Constituted. Combining computer science, cognitive science, and natural sciences with methods drawn from the humanities and social sciences as well as analyzes of artistic practice, the AIMS Research Training Centre to examine how the Significance of visual phenomena has changed over the course of recent Decades.
