The first trailer for the new full-motion capture CG film adaptation of the cartoon TinTin has hit the nets, and it looks like a pretty good and faithful adaptation of the original content while steering clear of the old “uncanny valley” problem. The movie is still a ways off from release, but looks like it’s a much better offering than The Polar Express or Final Fantasy.

Carlo Zapponi has a great interactive website that visualizing the migration flows of people into or out of any country you choose.
peoplemovin shows the flows of migrants as of 2010 through the use of open data (see Data Sources). The data are presented as a flow chart that shows the connections between countries. Nathan Yau’s new book “Visualize This” is now published and for-sale at multiple outlets!
Right now, at this very moment, I have an actual physical book on my desk, with my name on it, that says Visualize This: The FlowingData Guide to Design, Visualization, and Statistics. It’s a great feeling. Thank you again to all of you for making this possible and for sharing with me your love of data. Simply put, this book doesn’t exist without you, and I’m super grateful for all of your support. I hope Visualize This finds its way onto many others’ desks everywhere.
Following last week’s daily compilations of recent Social Media infographics, we’ll be dedicating this week to two of the most important players in this field: Facebook and Twitter. Today, we begin with a couple of illustrations about the ongoing dispute between Google and Facebook, by MBA Program Info and Tech Addicts. Then, a look back at the history of Mark Zuckerberg’s company, brought by Social Times, Mashable and Malware City.
I’m a sucker for Minecraft (My daughter & I play almost every day on our personal server), and thanks to the folks at the MIT Media Lab I can now placate my wife by showing her how it can be used for design and rapid prototyping.
Minecraft.Print() then outputs a standard model file for printing to either a professional 3D printer or (MakerBot or RepRap). Now that you’ve printed out your creation, it’s time to show it off. We figure you know how to do this part.
You build your creation inworld and then delineate it with a combination of rare blocks to define 2 corners, then use their python scripts to export it into a printable format.
