At CES next week, LG will be demonstrating the new LW6500 Cinema 3D TV, which is the first to get the coveted “Flicker Free” certification from Intertek.  How does it do this?

The LW6500’s outstanding 3D picture begins with LG’s proprietary Film-type Patterned Retarder (FPR) panel, which optimizes the separation of images for the left and right eyes. The images are then filtered through specially designed glasses to give viewers truly crisp, blur-free images that leap off the screen.

To summarize it, instead of Shutter Glasses they’re using Circularly Polarized glasses.   It’s Flicker-Free because it’s Shutter-Free too.  No details on what exactly FPR is (I’m curious if it’s interlaced like the JVC or overlaid), but I look forward to seeing how good it looks at CES.

Update: A bit more information on FPR from our own Paul Adams.
