Currently the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 is being manufactured on a 40 nm process at TSMC. (Just in case you are wondering, and I was, the thickness of human DNA comes in between 2-12 nanometers wide.) TSMC has been promising that they will migrate to 32 nm in 2010. Of course, that is not going to happen now. They ditched the idea and are instead going down to 28 nm. This affects NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards because they are designed for a specific process. PC Perspective has posted a nice article today on migrating from one process to another and how it affects graphics cards.
