This afternoon at 1:00 at the NewTek Book (#337) on the SIGGRAPH2010 Exhibition floor, William Shatner and Dick van Dyke will meet up for an interview on the past, present, and future of Visual Effects. Shatner will be doing the interviewing, while they both discuss their own longtime use of LightWave3D in their own projects (I honestly had no idea William Shatner was a VFX guy, did you?) and how they’ve changed the industry.

“Star Trek” Icon William Shatner and Comedian Dick van Dyke Join NewTek to Discuss Visual Effects—Past, Present and Future
“Star Trek” actor and Hollywood personality William Shatner will team up with comedian and television actor Dick van Dyke in the NewTek booth (#337) at SIGGRAPH 2010 at the Los Angeles Convention Center on Wednesday, July 28 at 1:00 p.m.
Shatner will sit down to interview van Dyke, and together, the two entertainment industry icons will discuss the growth of visual effects, both in and out of Hollywood, including the historic and ongoing adoption of LightWave 3D for the creation of sci-fi related visual effects in the broadcast and film communities.
Shatner, whose starring role in the original “Star Trek” television series and motion pictures made him a prominent role model for sci-fi enthusiasts everywhere, recently adopted NewTek TriCaster and LightWave 3D into the creative pipeline of his sci-fi social networking site MyOuterSpace.com. MyOuterSpace artists will use the systems to create live action and 3D graphics and visual effects for the newly launched extension of the popular portal. Dick Van Dyke, a longtime LightWave 3D artist who has used the software to create visual effects for some television shows he has starred in, will join Shatner onstage to discuss the state of visual effects—past, present and future.
