Panasonic debuts first consumer 3D camcorders

A few days ago we told you about the Panasonic HDC-SDT750. This video camera can capture video in conventional 2-D high definition, at a resolution of 1920×1080, just like any other video camera. However, by using a special lens adapter it can capture 3-D images. This special lens adapter actually has two small lenses in it that mimic our right and left eyes. These two lens each see a slightly different image. These images are captured and stored on the camera in side-by-side format. This really reduced the resolution of the camera in 3-D mode from 1920×1080 to 960×1080. The video recorded on the camera in 3-D can be played back on a 3-D capable television where the side-by-side pictures are expanded to fill the screen. In the United States, the camera and 3-D should cost about $1,400.
