RentersInsurance.org has a pair of matching infographics that use data from Census.gov to find and chart the most and least expensive places to rent a home in the US.  In the resulting infographics they show the states with the most extreme average rent, and then the county within with the most extreme rent.

Some great data and visuals here, although an odd choice of Colormaps.  The “Most Expensive” chart uses a Red to Green colormap, and the “Least Expensive” uses a Yellow to Black.  You get some nice contrast, and the intermediary colors don’t mix which makes them a good choice, but it seems unintuitive to me that Red would be the cheapest of the cheap rents, and Black the most Expensive of the Expensive rents.

See both graphics after the break.
