LaInformacion.com has a new interactive infographic that maps the cost of each Oscar nominated film as a circle, and shows information about the number of nominations and then computes a “profitability” Figure.

If we divide the budgets of the films nominated at this edition of the Academy Awards for the number of nominations, The Hurt Locker wins the first battle versus Avatar. Bigelow need around 30 times less budget than her former husband James Cameron to get the same number of nominations. The best profitability ratio goes to the peruvian La Teta Asustada, which needed just 0,8 million dollars to be in the big party of cinema.

Their “profitability” seems a bit pointless to me, would be much better served as “Profit / Budget”, or maybe “Profit / Nominations”.  The graphic also suffers from a few other glitches like the mouse must actually enter the red circle, which makes sense but it difficult for the above-named ‘La Teta Asustada” which is so tiny, and films like “Il Divo” which are completely enveloped by their neighbors.  A simply grid-proximity would be better.

Nonetheless, worth a glance.
