The “Discovery Lab” at the University of Alaska Fairbanks will, sadly, be closing in just a few months. The money used to run the facility, which consisted of a CAVE & Powerwall configuration, will be used for other projects:
The lab run by the Arctic Region Supercomputing Center is to close by May 1. Center spokeswoman Debra Damron tells the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner that the $250,000 needed each year to run the lab will be used to help operate a new data-storage facility and supercomputer.
Always sad to see a virtual reality center close.
