Just got another email from JPR where they discuss a few end-of-year events, most notably the recent SIGGRAPH Asia.  It’s interesting to see how the local culture affects the conference differently that its US counterpart.

For this second year of its existence, Siggraph Asia in Japan attracted 6,500 attendees. Most of them were young, avid attendees to the papers. Reflecting the interests of the host country, Japan, the conference featured robots, anime, manga, and plenty of MoCap. Somewhat weirdly, rather than using cute girls to show off the MoCap systems, the companies, including XSens, and Organic, featured boys dancing to Michael Jackson.

No surprise on the big robots & anime, but I would have thought the girls would have been even younger and cuter.  Definitely didn’t expect Micheal Jackson.
