It has been over a week since the 7.0 magnitude earthquake devastated Port-au-Prince (the capital of Haiti) and its surrounding areas. What was the overall destruction? How many people were affected? How much help is on the way?

I think this infographic is pretty poor. It’s a good start at getting some of the raw numbers in one place, but it doesn’t do a good job at analysis. For example, earthquake magnitudes are on a logarithmic scale, so a magnitude 5.9 aftershock is 10 times less intense than a 6.9 earthquake. The circles don’t reflect that. The aid numbers at the bottom are misleading…it’s hard to tell the total donated, or whether the amount contributed via text message are included in the red cross or other amounts.
