apple-macsApple’s Snow Leopard operating system is alive and well pushing OpenCL acceleration on any machine that supports it.  With such a feature integral to the OS, it’s no surprise that Apple is looking for the most reliable provider of 3D accelerator chips, and had decided to go a bit off the beaten path.  Unhappy with the high failure rates they’ve seen with the NVidia 9400 series chips in existing systems, upcoming systems with come with AMD Radeon 4000 series GPU’s.

AMD has announced that its line of Radeon HD 4000 series discrete graphics cards will now be featured inside Apple iMac and Mac Pro desktop computers. AMD’s video cards fully support the OpenCL version 1.0 implementation used in Apple’s just released Snow Leopard operating system.
