The Yuma Fire Department in Arizona has built a complete training simulator for incident command procedures in emergency situations.  Consuming an entire warehouse and based around a mock vehicle (donated by the US Border Patrol), it’s connected to a large computer in a neighboring room and fed data from photographs and other sources.

Hanging above the vehicle from the ceiling is a projector, and in front of it is a huge video display screen. The firefighter going through the training sits in the front seat of the vehicle and practices the incident command procedures based on the scenario unfolding on the screen.

The computer is capable of generating fire, smoke, and even artificial people.  Sounds like a pretty impressive setup that took a full 2 years to construct.
