Alienware & NVidia have announced a new laptop that uses an impressive 3 NVidia GPU’s to build the “world’s most powerful gaming laptop”. How does it use 3 GPU’s?
Alienware M17x laptops deliver scorching gaming performance by combining the horsepower of two discrete GeForce GTX 280M GPUs with NVIDIA SLI technology, and have the option of switching to a quiet operation mode with NVIDIA HybridPower™ technology. In HybridPower operation, the powerful GTX 280M GPUs are powered down and graphics operation is transferred to the GeForce 9400M GPU to save battery life while still delivering great graphics.
So for raw battery-killing performance, you’ve got dual GTX280’s in SLI configuration, and for low-end basic desktop work you’ve got a GeForce9800M. Not a bad combination. Now if it just looked “normal” and not like a reject prop from <insert cheesy B-grade alien movie here>.
