Ocean Water Effect in After Effects

A great screen capture from the AfterEffects New York meeting.

In this presentation, Aharon Rabinowitz shows you how to create this ocean scene in Adobe After Effects with only the tools found in AE – No 3rd-party plug-ins were used. He’ll also introduce you to a cool plug-in for creating realistic water. This was part of a presentation he gave on June 25, 2009 at After Effects New York.

Note from Aharon: This is not exactly a polished tutorial. The presentation I gave at AENY was not captured well, so I just sat down in front of my PC and re-recorded it straight through. There is no editing or audio cleanup here. Also, I drank a bottle of something called Soju about 15 minutes before I did it. I bet you won’t even be able to tell… mostly.

Worldwide Real-Time Firefox Downloads

firefox-dlsToday is launch day for FireFox 3.5, and Mozilla servers are already feeling the strain.  You can see just how popular it is with their newly deployed Real-Time Download watcher.  They combine a simple spreadsheet view with linegraphs showing downloads over time, with a geographical map that shows the various downloads geolocated across the globe.  Currently I see alot of traffic in the US & Europe, with the occasional blip in South America and Asia.

Check it out, see what you find!

Redway3d OpenGL Graphics Benchmark

Redway3D needed a special OpenGL Benchmark suited for high quality renderings in industrial uses, so they built their own benchmark based on their Redsdk technology.  The result is now available for download from their site.  It’s a nice geometric model of an industrial turbine engine and does some very high-end stuff like:

  • Hybrid rendering with CPU & GPU Raytracing
  • HDR Rendering, with 128bit floating point precision
  • per pixel, multipass compositing rendering

And more.
