Magnetic Dreams made the new Dell Adamo commercial, showing robotic arms assembling the new ultra-slim aluminum laptop offering. They’ve put a teaser up on their site with some production information.
On the production side, we used XSI for pre-production, animation and rendering. Tim Crowson modeled the robotic arms in Luxology’s Modo. They were then brought into XSI for rigging and shading. The arms design was based on some concepts drawings done in house, but when came time to model, we needed to figure out how things moved. We went over the range of movements we needed based on the storyboard and 2D animatic, then modeler and set up got together to figure out how to achieve them.
Video after the break.
Edit: They won’t let the Vimeo video be shown in other sites.. *sigh*. Oh well, go check it out here.
Edit Again: The guys at Magnetic Dreams commented below, and updated the video to enable Embed. See it after the Break.

Hey guys,
the video should be available to embed …sorry about that. We just recently started using vimeo, so we’re still working on our settings… 🙂
Thanks for the plug! (and come back to the blog soon, we have another spot we did for the Adamo packaging we going to put up soon. )
