Terarecon goes for Remote Visualization

In Vienna, Austria today, TeraRecon Inc has announced “Aquarius INtuition” (“AQi”), a Remote Visualization system.

With AQi 4.4, TeraRecon has delivered the world’s first fully-featured client server advanced visualization solution. iNtuition is the only true client-server advanced visualization technology available on the market today, that can address the suite of applications generally expected to be available by medical imaging providers.

The article is light on details as to how their system works, but it seems to be heavily focused on Medical visualization.

TeraRecon, Inc. was in fact the first one to commercialize a client-server system for remote medical visualization. Dedicated workstations for review of medical image datasets (e.g. CT/MRI scan images) work great, but are very resource hungry for CPU/memory as well as rendering system. Witha client-server approach, TeraRecon deploys multiple rendering clients with a single rendering/processing server which allows for multiple users to connect to a single server using their laptops, notebooks, home computers, and recently: even their iPhones, and review medical imaging datasets in full 3D.

This approach is beneficial both for the users (radiologists: data access anywhere) and the facility (hospitals etc.: relatively lower cost of equipment because of teh need for only one extensive processing machine (the server) with many remote clients that are very light with resource demands).
